Shop Smart. Shop Jaremko Nissan to help protect the Spokane River and aquifer
[portfolio_slideshow] Spokane EnviroStars is proud to announce the five star certification of Jaremko Nissan for both auto service and collision repair. Envirostars certifies businesses for properly disposing hazardous and other wastes that can pollute the environment. Said Tonilee Hanson, “We’ve certified 72 businesses. Check them out.” Jaremko Nissan, located at 6901 East Sprague Avenue in Spokane Valley, is family owned and operated. As the oldest import dealer west of the Mississippi, Jaremko has been serving Spokane car buyers for over 80 years. Owner Paul Jaremko is very aware of the aquifer because the Central Pre-Mix gravel pit, located behind his dealership, has exposed a section of the aquifer. Paul enjoys watching the eagles, osprey and geese that inhabit the area. Operations Director, Greg Loberg, invited EnviroStars in to conduct a certification visit and here are just a few of Jaremko’s best practices. Hazardous wastes such as oil or antifreeze have secondary containment systems to ensure they don’t enter storm drains, and licensed hazardous-waste companies are used for disposal. In the auto body shop all prep work and painting are done inside a downdraft prep station or paint booth to control emissions. The least toxic products are used and the entire facility recycles. Jaremko helps keep oils and brake metals out of our storm drains by washing all vehicles inside. The wash water goes through an oil-water separator and then to the sewer system for treatment. The Jaremko family also participates in organizations like the Muscular Dystrophy Society, the Parkinson’s Center, Habitat for Humanity, the Humane Society and others. Spokane EnviroStars is pleased to recognize Jaremko Nissan for their environmental stewardship and community leadership.
